Yelp.com is a site where users review businesses. One would think that it is a great way to find a given business provider, as reviewer push up good business and push down bad ones. At least that's the idea. However....
1. Yelp contacts businesses with BAD reviews and tells them that they can remove their bad reviews if the business buys a sponsorship package.
2. Those businesses that purchase the sponsorships delete the bad reviews and are artificially rated high.
3. Those busiensses that refuse to purchase the sponsorships have their GOOD reviews DELETED by Yelp, leaving ONLY the BAD reviews, thereby pushing those businesses down, and extorting the business into buying Yelp's sponsoship packages.
So, any business can now be targeted OR promoted, however Yelp sees fit.
The public does not know about Yelp's biz practices, and thereby relies on the service as an honest assessment of the listed businesses.
Therefore, the system rewards corruption and punishes virtue. Yelp promotes ponerized business owners, penalizing all others, thereby contributing to the overall ponerization of society.
