I only recently figured out the Cat Stevens song, "Trouble". Replace "trouble" with the word, "establishment" and then reread the lyrics.
Quote :
During this time Stevens began to question aspects of his life, and spirituality. He later said, "to go from the show business environment and find you are in hospital, getting injections day in and day out, and people around you are dying, it certainly changes your perspective. I got down to thinking about myself.
It seemed almost as if I had my eyes shut.

Trouble Oh trouble set me free I have seen your face And it's too much too much for me
Trouble Oh trouble can't you see You're eating my heart away And there's nothing much left of me
I've drunk your wine You have made your world mine So won't you be fair So won't you be fair
I don't want no more of you So won't you be kind to me Just let me go where I'll have to go there
Trouble Oh trouble move away I have seen your face and it's too much for me today
Trouble Oh trouble can't you see You have made me a wreck Now won't you leave me in my misery
I've seen your eyes and I can see death's disguise Hangin' on me Hangin' on me
I'm beat, I'm torn Shattered and tossed and worn Too shocking to see Too shocking to see
Trouble Oh trouble move from me I have paid my debt Now won't you leave me in my misery
Trouble Oh trouble please be kind I don't want no fight And I haven't got a lot of time

Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide No escape from reality Open your eyes Look up to the skies and see I'm just a poor boy (Poor boy) I need no sympathy Because I'm easy come, easy go Little high, little low Any way the wind blows Doesn't really matter to me, to me
Mama just killed a man Put a gun against his head Pulled my trigger, now he's dead Mama, life has just begun But now I've gone and thrown it all away Mama, ooh Didn't mean to make you cry If I'm not back again this time tomorrow Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come Sends shivers down my spine Body's aching all the time Goodbye, everybody I've got to go Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth Mama, oooooooh (Anyway the wind blows) I don't want to die Sometimes wish I'd never been born at all
[Guitar Solo]
I see a little silhouetto of a man Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Fandango Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me (Galileo) Galileo (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro Magnifico-o-o-o-o I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me He's just a poor boy from a poor family Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go? Bismillah! No, we will not let you go Let him go Bismillah! We will not let you go Let him go Bismillah! We will not let you go Let me go (Will not let you go) Let me go (Will not let you go) (Never, never, never, never) Let me go, o, o, o, o No, no, no, no, no, no, no (Oh mama mia, mama mia) Mama Mia, let me go Beelzebub has the devil put aside for me, for me, for me!
So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye So you think you can love me and leave me to die Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here
[Guitar Solo] (Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah)
Nothing really matters Anyone can see Nothing really matters Nothing really matters to me
Any way the wind blows...

Prince 1999 (release in 1982)
Quote :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_(song)
"1999" is a song by Prince, the title track from his 1982 album 1999. The song is one of Prince's best-known, and a defining moment in his rise to superstar status. The apocalyptic yet upbeat party anthem saw chart success in 1983, peaking at #12 in the US and #25 in the UK (reaching #2 in the UK when re-released in 1985). The album version of the song starts with a slowed-down voice, reassuring the listener "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. I only want you to have some fun." Prince shares lead vocals on the track with members of his band The Revolution.
I was dreamin' when I wrote this Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin' Coulda sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple There were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' 2 run from the destruction U know I didn't even care
'Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over Oops out of time So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999
I was dreamin' when I wrote this So sue me if I go 2 fast
But life is just a party And parties weren't meant 2 last
War is all around us My mind says prepare 2 fight
So if I gotta die I'm gonna listen 2 my body tonight
Yeah, they say two thousand zero zero party over Oops out of time So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999 Yeah
Lemme tell ya somethin' If U didn't come 2 party Don't bother knockin' on my door I got a lion in my pocket And baby he's ready 2 roar
Yeah, everybody's got a bomb We could all die any day But before I'll let that happen I'll dance my life away
They say two thousand zero zero party over Oops out of time We're runnin' outta time So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999)
Say it 1 more time Two thousand zero zero party over Oops out of time No, no So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999)
Alright, it's 1999 You say it, 1999 1999 1999 don't stop, don't stop, say it 1 more time
Two thousand zero zero party over Oops out of time Yeah, Yeah So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999)
Yeah, 1999 Don'tcha wanna go Don'tcha wanna go We could all die any day I don't wanna die I'd rather dance

American Baby by Dave Matthews Band
This is a predictive programming song, where the audience is being setup for the massive decline (and fall?) of the USA. Reference to "I" holding on to "you" are references to an American citizen (who has suffered through the collapse) holding on to their faith, or belief in God.
References to "American Baby" are deliberately made without a comma, as "American Baby" is intended to mean each American citizen, who the elite call "children" due to their ignorance and naivety.
The song is telling listeners that their ability to change our (America's) destiny is not possible and all we (the public) have is our faith in God, who we should expect to "see soon."
If these walls came crumbling down, Fell so hard to make us lose our faith, From whats left youd figure it out, Still make lemonade taste like a sunny day,
Stay, beautiful baby, I hope you stay American, baby American baby,
Nobodys laughing now, Gods grace lost and the devil is proud, But Ive been walking for a thousand miles, One last time I could see you smile,
I, I, hold, hold on to you, You bring me hope, Ill see you soon, And if I dont see you, Im afraid weve lost the way
Stay, beautiful baby, I hope you stay American, baby American baby (2x)
I hold on, to you, you lift me up And always will, I see you in life, Hope I dont get left behind,
I, I, hold, hold on to you, You bring me hope, Ill see you soon, And if I dont see you, Im afraid weve lost the way
Stay, beautiful baby, I hope you stay American, baby, I hope you stay, beautiful baby, I hope you stay American, baby, American baby (2x) Stay American, baby Beautiful,
Nobodys laughing now, Cause you could always make me laugh out loud, Stay American, baby American baby, Stay American, baby American baby

Sting (as in Bee Sting) singing "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You"
Who is "I"? Who is "You"? Who is "Their"? Who is "Your"?
You could say I lost my faith in science and progress You could say I lost my belief in the holy church You could say I lost my sense of direction You could say all of this and worse but
If I ever lose my faith in you There'd be nothing left for me to do
Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV You could say I'd lost my belief in our politicians They all seemed like game show hosts to me
If I ever lose my faith in you There'd be nothing left for me to do
I could be lost inside their lies without a trace But every time I close my eyes I see your face
I never saw no miracle of science That didn't go from a blessing to a curse I never saw no military solution That didn't always end up as something worse but Let me say this first
If I ever lose my faith in you There'd be nothing left for me to do

I really love this thread.
Love Cat Stevens most of all!
Thanks for posting these, They Live. ****** Re Sting, I'm not sure. I'd have to check out the rest of his music to get a perspective of his loves, and hates. What do YOU think he's referring to, when he says "If I ever lose my faith in you"? I'd be very interested to hear your views.

On the heavier side, I've always thought this was one of the most prescient and chilling descriptions of the modern surveillance/security state that I've vere seen presented in pop-culture.

Up here in space I'm looking down on you. My lasers trace Everything you do.
You think you've private lives Think nothing of the kind. There is no true escape I'm watching all the time.
I'm made of metal My circuits gleam. I am perpetual I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy I['m] protected electric eye.
Always in focus ' can't feel my stare. I zoom into you But you don't know I'm there.
I take a pride in probing all your secret moves My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove.
I'm made of metal My circuits gleam. I am perpetual I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy I['m] protected electric eye. Solo
Electric eye, in the sky Feel my stare, always there [There]'s nothing you can do about it. Develop and expose I feed upon your every thought And so my power grows.
I'm made of metal My circuits gleam. I am perpetual I keep the country clean.

Oh that is *bleak*...I can feel it sinking down into my bones.
Really powerful lyrics. What surprises me a lot is that this was written back in 1982. Back in 1982 I hadn't the foggiest notion there was *anything* wrong with my country. Sad, how blind I, and most of us, were.
It's interesting to see the band generating all that smoke, and NOISE, and light/fireworks, and yet it leaves one feeling *without heat* and COLD. Fascinating.
Thanks for posting this.

No prob.
The lyrics definitely are powerful, bleak and a bit chilling. The ACCURACY is what really floors me, But then the Brits have always been a bit ahead of the curve on this kind of thing.

Who is "me" in this song? I think "me" = ponerization (allegorical demon).
She Always Takes It With A Heart Of Stone 'Cause All She Does Is Throw It Back To Me I've Spent A Lifetime Looking For Someone Don't Try To Understand Me Just Simply Do The Things I Say
Love Is A Feeling Give It When I Want It 'Cause I'm On Fire Quench My Desire Give It When I Want It Talk To Me Woman Give In To Me Give In To Me
You Always Knew Just How To Make Me Cry And Never Did I Ask You Questions Why It Seems You Get Your Kicks From Hurting Me Don't Try To Understand Me Because Your Words Just Aren't Enough
Love Is A Feeling Quench My Desire Give It When I Want It Takin' Me Higher Love Is A Woman I Don't Wanna Hear It Give In To Me Give In To Me
You And Your Friends Were Laughing At Me In Town But It's Okay And It's Okay You Wont Be Laughing Girl When I'm Not Around I'll Be Okay And I'll, I'll Not Find Gotta, The Peace Of Mind No
Don't Try To Tell Me Because Your Words Just Aren't Enough
Love Is A Feeling Quench My Desire Give It When I Want It Takin' Me Higher Talk To Me Woman Love Is A Feeling Give In To Me Give In To Me Give In To Me
Love Is A Feeling I Don't Wanna Hear It Quench My Desire Takin' Me Higher Tell It To The Preacher Satisfy The Feeling Give In To Me Give In To Me
I Don't Wanna I Don't Wanna I Don't Wanna Hear It Give It To The Fire Talk To Me Woman Quench My Desire I Don't Like A Lady Talk To Me Baby Give In To Me
Give In To The Fire Give In To Me Give In To Me Give In To Me
Love Is A Woman Give In To Me Give In To Me Give In To Me Give In To Me
'Cause I'm On Fire Talk To Me Woman Quench My Desire Give It To The Feeling

Yes, in a way, I'd agree. I think MJ was literally consumed by sex. If there's a demon, I think it's a sex demon which has devoured his nature, and won't let him forget "it", for even a moment. Sad! The rest of the lyrics= a montage, maybe (of people from his life)
