PostSubject: Reality........   Tue 31 May 2011, 3:45 pm

".....although man is able to create images, he should be aware that they never are reality. Gregory Bateson's statement: the map is not the territory, is embedded in this verse.

Models, theories, language in general are not representations of reality, they are only the human way to relate to that reality. "

"It is precisely when it appears most truthful, most faithful and most in conformity to reality that the image is most diabolical -- and our technical images, whether they be from photography, cinema or television, are in the overwhelming majority more 'figurative', 'realist', than all the images from the past cultures. It is in its resemblance, not only analogical but technological, that the image is most immoral and perverse."

Quote from the essay "The Evil Demon of Images" by Jean Baudrillard.

We no longer have any standards of truth or objectivity, but a scale of probability. ...The space between the true and the false is no longer a relational space, but a space of random distribution. ...The uncertainty principle does not belong to physics alone; it is at the heart of all our actions, at the heart of ‘reality’

~ Jean Baudrillard

So, man does NOT create reality. I think this is a definition that I can work with.
