Behavioral science employed to leverage the virtual simulacrum so that it can control the physical simulacrum. For, the virtual simulacrum is far easier to control centrally.

RE: "You have zero friends."

Who is the "physical simulacrum?" The actual people who are the users of Facebook? Also, is this the Delphi Technique, the Alinsky method, or a combination thereof? Wow..
Their understanding of psychology is frighteningly profound...(By "their", I mean the social engineers, the Psychopaths - sheesh.Sad )

But this clip is brilliant and almost unbearably funny...Vbg!
It melts one's heart-
*Heart*

God bless Matt and Trey. Grin.

I view the "physical simulacrum" as the physical world that we currently live-in, especially within dense metropolitan areas.

Not sure I see the Delphi Technique, the Alinsky method here. Tell me more about what you see here.

Matt and Trey are fronts. This show was created by experts in a myriad of disciplines. Matt and Trey don't have that kind of knowledge or ability.

In summary, I see this as a predictive programming episode for SouthPark's young audience, getting them oriented to the concept that their lives are now dependent more on the virtual than the physical, and that their online persona's have great power. It's all about sucking the young audience into a new simulacrum, where that audience can be more easily controlled.

But tell me what you see, because their stuff is layered and its easy to miss important insights or misinterpret.

My apologies! Below is a video, about the fellow I meant to reference: Edward Bernays. I wanted to refer to the technique that utilized peer pressure against its victims. Sorry for misleading. But I'm not sure even HE is the right villain, as I'm thinking of whoever it was that capitalized on *the need for approval*.

However, I will follow up on this topic, but I just wanted to correct my egregious error. Sad

Later. Smile

Yes, I think you are on to a very good point there regarding the technique to utilize peer pressure. That is certainly one of the major influencers being used. I will have to look it up to see where this technique was harnessed, but certainly you are correct in identifying Bernays as a contributing factor, for he was instrumental in moving society away from logical explanations for behavioral change toward strictly emotional appeals, whether they be rational, logical or not. It seems that what is evident in this Southpark episode is clearly and purely an emotional appeal which breaks down at the most rudimentary logical inspection.

FYI: I edited your post so that the Youtube would display inside the thread. Please see the code below the video, as this shows what the code for posting a video looks like. But the Youtube button on the toolbar of any new post will guide one through insertion of a video without knowing the code.

Another name that occurs to me is "Adorno" - I think I remember him being associated with Status Symbols. I think I'll look up his writings, might be what I'm looking for. Smile

I guess one could also refer to BF Skinner, as we're talking about behavioral modification here.

The real take away here is that applications on the Internet (virtual simulacrum) are being designed and deployed specifically to control the publics' behavior both ON and OFF the Internet. We not only see this with application like Facebook, but we see them in "Reputation Engines" that allow anonymous users to comment-on and rank real-people. What is happening is everyone is becoming a credit reporting agency, where they can report-on the behavior of any other person. It's the ultimate in a tattle-tale society, where ones behavior is constantly monitored by all known and unknown around them. How one survives in such a climate is beyond my understanding, because all behavior is ultimately going to come up against others who disapprove of that behavior. I can only see one being able to survive by joining tribes of like-minded individuals, where their particular behavior will be accepted. The problem with this solution, is that tribes can easily be manipulated to attack other tribes.

Oh brother, this is ugly.
