PostSubject: A little "theory" about Humanity   Mon 26 Oct 2009, 1:56 pm

Sometimes I wonder if Humanity is inversely proprtional to ones social status. What I mean is, could it be that the higher a person moves up the social, financial status ladder the more their behavioral traits, consistent with humanity, are lost?

Sometimes it seems as if real humanity lives at the bottom. How many here have stopped to talk with homeless people? I live in a city with lots of them. And even the more down and out homeless or street people are incredibly humane. They maybe messed up on drugs, or have a mental disease, but I find they rarely have a mean or inhumane bone in their body. I find when you actually stop to talk to them, and I don't mean talk down to them, but just talk to them like they are anyone else, they respond very well and are often times quite kind.

So, it got me to wondering if our society is such that in order to "succeed" in this society one must dispense of our natural tendencies? If you take it one step further, and go the faith route, one has to wonder if it is because Lucifer has no use for humanity, so therefore disposes of those who display humanity while residing in this world. It's almost as if the goal posts in today's society were all established by Luciferian belief systems, and humanity simply cannot "succeed" inside this structure, requiring one to sell a little more of ones soul every step up the rung of their ladder.

In short, to put it into a formula that displays the inverse relationship, does:

Integrity of Soul = 1/Social Prominence

I think there are good people and there are scum in every tier of our social structure.

It's not about how much wealth or influence somebody has, it's how they got there. Somebody who invents a revolutionary device that increases 100 million people's living standards at no extra cost of resources (besides what was expended through the initial mental labor) deserves to have respect and financial gain. On the other hand, corrupt politicians, mafia bosses, and media whores may be only detrimental to society, by offering services based on deception and authoritarian control. They also gain wealth and social status, although they serves as another means of power rather than a natural reflection of their abilities.

So I wouldn't make a distinction between good and bad based on some outward appearance that is of cultural value. I would, however, make the claim that those of a higher social/financial status have a higher capacity for doing good (as for evil).

...some of us here come from the Ayn Randian style of libertarianism.
...not that the -isms matter to me so much anymore.

yes I think there is some truth in this statement that you will find more decent people amont the poor or the outcasts but as stated above you cant make a general rule here because there are bad people everywhere and good people also among the rich. It is not that simple really. But sure I have found very nice people that have been poor and some rich people cannot really step out of their social role and cannot really talk to you as a man to a man because they have too much money, they become their money and they believe that everyone wants to talk to them because of their money etc.
