Congress Makes Mailing tobacco as Illegal as Smuggling Empty

The senate is about to pass a bill making mailing tobacco as illegal as smuggling! They sure did this one by stealth, they slipped it in the Homeland Security Committee. Smoking is bad for my health but of course this isn't about concern for public health. But in reality, it's to make sure they collect their extortionate taxes for tobacco sales.

Quote :
"To prevent tobacco smuggling, to ensure the collection of all tobacco taxes, and for other purposes."

I'm amused by the wording of many bills. Here, "smuggling" means buying a product in a direct transaction with a seller in another state and having him mail it to you, thus legally bypassing state vendor's tax. (Texas jacked up the tax 400% since 2007).

The last lobby to fight this has been the Indians, their whole tobacco industry depends on mail order distribution.

Quote :
1. The standard reason: prevention of direct exchange between a seller and buyer, in order to extort 400% value as 'tax'.

2. 'other purpose" a: to shut down privately owned tobacco products distributors, and independent tobacco growers.

3. 'other purpose b: Big Agenda: Long term plan to shut down Free Enterprise in the United States.

Tobacco is first because people think they're doing it in concern for public heath. next year it will be vitamins and herbs, then seeds.

I used to by cigarettes (10yrs or so ago) from an Indian reservation in upstate NY. They were tax free and I would buy 4 cartons at a time at SIGNIFICANT savings. Like 1/3 of the retail price I would spend locally. Then NY state passed a law saying credit cards could not be used for online tobacco purchase.

I hear that they also used to have individual cigarettes for sale in liquor shops before... but since then they passed a bill making it illegal. (Obviously, committing to a whole pack makes it much more addictive then just having one after you've had a few drinks at an occasion.) If I can't sell something that I bought, then I don't really own it, do I? Free market, hah!

This is really frustrating. I usually smoke organic cigarettes (about $9/pack--maybe 2 packs a week) but I just got a rolling machine for Christmas. American Spirit doesn't sell organic tobacco in a can and it's a lot more expensive by the pouch. I was hoping I might be able to find some bulk organic tobacco...
